Emails between Kevin, San Diego Shakespeare Society Director, and me:
Kevin: “We’ve prepared brief scenes from Romeo and Juliet which our actors will read staged reading-style from behind music stands.”
Me: “After your actors had finished their readings, I was hoping to read the first pages of A DAUGHTER OF FAIR VERONA (read here) which tells the alternate story of Romeo and Juliet and how they didn’t perish in the tomb. It’s comedy, four pages. While I’m reading, is it possible for your Romeo and Juliet to take the spotlight and perform the scene?”
Kevin: “I agree that it would be a charming segue if the actors were to act out what turns out to be the not so tragic fate of Romeo and Juliet. All of the actors are excited and we are a GO for acting out the reading from the novel.”
Me: “My dear! This is my dream performance! I’ve wanted this ever since I wrote that scene and now the SAN DIEGO SHAKESPEAREAN SOCIETY is going to stage it! That’s essentially Romeo and Juliet playing themselves according to my script!”

Best Moment/Worst moment:
Depends on where you were sitting.
On July 14th, I happened to be at Third Place Books//Lake Forest Park/Seattle in conversation with Julia Quinn celebrating the release of TEACH THE TORCHES TO BURN.
Coincidentally, July 14th is my birthday, which should have been no issue but my trainer, Susan, and my workout buddies traveled two hours to arrive en masse and led the “Happy Birthday” sing-along. They are thrilled with themselves because…
When it’s my birthday workout (which happens annually because Susan is a sadist) it means stuff like, “To celebrate, Christina is going to do 187 burpees which is how old she is now.” I don’t like it, but I do it. In return what I ask is that they not sing happy birthday. That’s a fair exchange, don’t you think?
On the other hand, Assistant Jill was filming and she thought it was the best moment. Probably because she was laughing so hard. Yes, yes, she posted the video.
Funniest moment:
When one lady stood up and said she had stopped in to pee, realized Julia and I were there, sat through the interview (she still had to go,) and she bought books. Not bad for a rest stop!
The line for autographs
If you weren’t able to get there for the autographing, both JQ and I left autographed books. Drop in and see if there are any left! Third Place is a great bookstore.

The biggest social media triumph of the week was that the video of The Husband pulling garlic roared through 75,000 views on Instagram in the first 24 hours, and it’s now at 132,000 views.
It totally eclipsed me as Queen Elizabeth I.
